Why shop at HomeTown?

The new Great India Place mall at Sector 38A (Opp Sec 18) is surely a massive place. One store that stands out, being one of its kind, Arcus having disappeared from NCR a while ago, is HomeTown. This one has stuff for the complete home.

So why do you shop there? Heck, shop? Why do you want to go there at all?

Check out the pics. This is the new HomeTown trolley (appeared a week ago). Now all that the little one wants to go to is HomeTown!

Beware, there are only a few of these in the store I believe. Rest are all normal trolleys. And another caution, you shouldn't take this trolley out to the car ;-)

Seventymm ...

If you live in the NCR, and have been to any of the movie halls recently, you would have seen this little ad from Seventymm. The ad is a masterpiece, in case it gets pulled from the Seventymm site, you can also find it here.

The point is, we had been thinking about getting one of these rental video services, and I decided to go ahead and register with Seventymm. I went to the site, filled in my details and hit the submit button.

As it happens, my gmail address has '.' (two of them, actually). Seventymm did not like it. It said invalid email address. Hmm. I changed it to another that did not have '.' in the name. It cribbed about my home telephone number. It wanted an eight digit phone number. Now, delhi has eight digit phone numbers, Noida doesn't. Noida has seven digit numbers!

I was slightly upset. How could they do this? So I went to the Contact Us page. Typed in my complaint and hit Submit. Invalid email address, it helpfully told me. Oops, I had used my gmail address again!

I was now upset.

There was a phone number listed. I called. After listening to the automated message for a while, the system cheerfully told me that the call couldn't be answered as everybody was busy. Then it asked me to leave a voice mail after the beep.

There was a beep, I opened my mouth to speak and the cheerful voice announced that the message quota had exceeded!

Boy.

BUT all isn't lost. I went back. Used an email address that didn't have '.' (before the @ part, ie). Then stuffed another zero at the end of my number. I got a call in a minute and a real lady told me to go back to Account Preferences to change email id/phone numbers to whatever I like.

Now, we wait. Having built up the queue.

Shoulder guide ...

Ever wondered how the shoulder barriers of a road are constructed?

By the virtue of being in a place with a fervent construction activity, we've seen quite a few methods. The most usual method is cement blocks are placed and then plastered in before the tar is laid.

However, what you see in this picture, is one of the exits from the flyover to nowhere coming up near sector 93. The shoulder barriers for this one are being constructed by that machine in the picture. Labourers put mixed cement in that machine (toward right end). The machine moves forward (toward left). And you have that nice little barrier. Note that this road is yet to get the layers of stones, earth and then tar.

That will hold the barrier in place.

Hindi online comics ...

While searching for something else a day ago, I stumbled upon http://www.rajcomics.com. Go and click on the Online Comics link in the top banner. A very decent flash based reader pops up and shows a bunch of hindi comics for your reading pleasure.

Enjoy!
