Hunting for books ...

There was a time when the only decent game in town was FirstAndSecond (about three years ago), even Amazon didn't deliver to India (started very recently, I think).

These days. there are other options than the two mentioned above. Of note, is Bookshop of India. Haven't brought anything from here, but the search turns up with a decent number of books (especially, Indian editions of books).

Then there are, in no order whatsoever:
If you find others worth mentioning, do drop a line!

Happydent ad ...

These days, ads about chewing gum/teeth whiteners run amok on television. This one (Happydent) stands out among all of them.

Everything in this ad, from the outrageous concept, to the wonderful score, to the short but really nice lyrics, and of course, the breathtaking visuals, is worth the kind of frequency it is aired at.

This page has a little more detail about who created the ad and a brief concept synopsis with pictures.

This page has a lot more detail about the creators and how the concept came about.

I'll add the lyrics (and a rough English translation) here soon ...

Enjoy!

Confession ...

Some songs on heavy rotation on FM radio these days (for instance Mallika! I hate you) make you wonder: who buys these albums?

Guilty conscience: I am one of them.

On the way back from Manali, we were rather tired of the single CD that was worth listening too (and it was Aksar, imagine what the rest of them were, which probably explains why I curse the drive to Manali). So I quickly stepped into the first music shop on the road and came up with this.

No, I can not loan the CD to you (we donated the CD to the driver when we reached Delhi :-) Posted by Picasa

A bumper sticker on a truck ...

Bumper stickers on trucks in India provide some people a very creative outlet. Somebody should invite these guys on The Great Indian Laughter Challenge ...

Flood of posts ...

... most of which have a photo might puzzle you. Have I actually become less lazy?

No! Finally laid my hands on the Picasa for Linux. I already have crossover installed and boy, it runs smoothly.

I have run Picasa on Windows before and it is great! But I do not log onto Windows that much (my laptop is a dual boot machine and my work mostly requires Linux).

So the linux version comes handy. I discovered a bunch of old pictures lying on the disk too. The Blog This! button is a very convenient way of publishing posts.

BTW Most of the pictures here are shot with the w800i :-)

Philisophy club in session ...

This is a clandistine photo of the local philisophy club in session. No topic is too bizarre, complex or taboo here.

Watering the lawn ...

Well, all sorts of little things need watering for a spectacular growth :-)

A rough distribution of water goes:
  • Self (20%)
  • Friends (20%)
  • Road (20%)
  • Parents (20%)
  • Lawns and plants (rest of it :-)

The little gardener ...

Morning time is reserved for watering the plants and the lawn. Normally he just likes to water the plants, the road, himself and his father.

Since the last few mornings, he has cultivated a new hobby. You can see it :-) Posted by Picasa

A 100% growth example ...

Well, bound to happen to you when you get to be 2 years old. This picture is taken outside the Shopprix mall in Noida. Posted by Picasa

Reviewing code ...

I know that there are a bunch of places you could point your browser to when it comes to topics such as code reviews, but this is as good as any you are likely to find.

It is more on the lines of don't shoot the coder ...

Reams of nothing

After a week or two of waiting, I got an invite for googlepages. Head right over to devendra.r.deshpande's Home Page to check it out.

It is just as sparsely populated as this one :-)
